George Town Literary Festival > Programme
Engage your mind with some of the world’s greatest thinkers at the George Town Literary Festival 2016. Over 60 writers, poets, filmmakers, and performers from all over the world converge in Penang to bring us the biggest, boldest and best literary festival in Malaysia.
Kicking off the festival is a series of workshops at Wisma Yeap Chor Ee. In the evening, join us at Black Kettle for the Opening Ceremony with feminist activist and writer Zainah Anwar delivering the keynote address on the festival’s theme – Hiraeth. The celebration continues with the Opening Lecture by A.C. Grayling, British philosopher and founder of the New College of the Humanities, and capped off with a secret film screening.
Day 2 and Day 3 of the Festival are packed with thought-provoking panel discussions and conversations, engaging readings, interactive workshops, and captivating performances. The evening of Day 2 will see captivating performances by Malaysian legends A. Samad Said and Cecil Rajendra together with their sons at Wisma Yeap Chor Ee. Then head on to Black Kettle for a night of poetry films and documentaries. Closing the festival on Day 3 will be an evening of performances by the Festival Writers at The Canteen at ChinaHouse.
So what are you waiting for? Come join us at GTLF for a weekend of culture, heritage, inspiration and intellectual conversations and discourse.
